What our customers say at Girls for Sail

Read some of our fantastic feedback from just some of the ladies who have sailed with us!

"I was slightly anxious about doing my practical but Stef was great.  I learnt a lot and it was fun too. I thought this would be the end of my formal sailing training but I feel inspired to do more now.  Many thanks,"- Rebeca Ward, Day Skipper,  October 2016

"I was really nervous but Lizzie was extremely accommodating and gently encouraging." Helen Godfrey, Skills Weekend, June 2016

"An excellent five days - great trainer - girls alone!" Carolyn, RYA Competent Crew, June 2016

"Please can I add to my feedback for last weekend and ask you to pass on this to Lucinda. I just wanted her to know that she was inspirational on so many levels, so skilled at passing on her incredible knowledge and experience and I learnt so much - not just about spinnakers, but about sailing generally and had such a great time." Katie, Sail Trimming and Spinnaker Weekend, June 2016

"Just wanted to drop a short email with a big THANK YOU for my whole Girls for Sail experience. Starting with your very friendly and helpful advice planning my logistics and the fabulous experience with Sophie and Fran. I was particularly impressed with Sophie's ease and confidence whether resolving equipment on the boat, handling high seas while I personally was having a very dramatic sea sickness bout when lifting my head seemed impossible let alone doing anything on deck; or explaining for the 100th time exactly which rope she means and what is meant to be done with it. As a non swimmer and having never spent more than 7 hours on a boat at any one time I felt I learned masses and was getting to try out different positions on the boat with lots of guidance. Please pass my thanks again to Sophie and Fran for looking after the race and the trip back to the shore!" Lelda, RORC Morgan Cup 2016

"I came to learn to sail but left one week later with amazing friends. Thanks so much for the best few days"- Nina Luckman, Competent Crew, May 2016

"Learn a new skill

 Laugh a Lot

 Lose your inhibitions

Leave tired but happy"- Susan Holcombe, Competent Crew, May 2016

"Really feel like I've got my foot on the first rung of the sailing ladder and I can't wait to continue my experience. Thank you so much ! "- Georgie Roberts , Beginners Weekend, May 2016

"I had reached the top of my profession and life was relatively within my grasp. However sailing forces me out of my comfort zone and girls for sail has equipped me with the skills necessary to sail with confidence"-Helen Skrine, Day Skipper, April 2016

"My daughter and I went for a day sail with Oriel on Tuesday. As well as organising fantastic sunshine and some wind, we thought Oriel looked after us extremely well. She was very tactful with my daughter which we both really appreciated. Please thank her for us and many thanks to GFS for a lovely day out." Janet & Sally, Day Sail, Mar 2016

"I surprised myself" - Libby Bentall, Competent Crew, March2015

"I've really enjoyed sailing with GFS and have learnt so much - I never would have had the confidence to give racing a go if Sophie hadn't suggested it on the day skipper week, and now I think I'm hooked! It's been brilliant to have the opportunity to move around the boat learning the different positions and has also been wonderful to meet so many amazing women. I'm sure I'll be back at some point for some more racing or training." Nia, Hamble Winter Series, 2015

"I had a great time, it really boosted my confidence and having a mixed capability and backgrounds made it more enjoyable so everybody mixed in well and supported each other. The RYA instructor was excellent and filled us all with confidence which added to our experience." Sue, RYA Competent Crew, Feb 2016

"Well done to the crew of Hot Stuff for completing the 2016 RORC 600! My wife and I were tracking your progress beginning with the opening gun. We were on the headland and saw you get underway. Our YB tracker kept us informed throughout. Many years ago I sailed on the three-masted barque, Endeavour II, and know what it’s like to be at sea with wind and sun and a lot of work as companions. At times tranquility reigned and at other times it was all rather terrifying. What you accomplished was no small feat. The tenacity you all demonstrated was wonderful and you and your skipper are to be congratulated." Jim, RORC Caribbean 600, March 2016

"A perfect learning environment – no pressure! " Helen, RYA Competent Crew Oct 2015

"Carol really stepped in and stepped up through the campaign, which was awesome, and I just love sailing with Sophie – she has a very calm authority on the boat, a lovely sense of humour and an excellent coaching style – I have a great deal of respect for both of them and they did a phenomenal job." Jemma, Fastnet Campaign 2015

"I came after having a very upsetting experience of day skipper theory and was incredibly nervous. Everyone was lovely and made me feel very welcome, right from the initial phone call. Amazing - thank you so much! Not only have I got through the qualification, but you have helped me regain my confidence!" Vicki, Day Skipper Theory 2015

"Annie is a fantastic instructor. She explains everything very clearly and has endless patience and good humour. Despite the many times that we (the clients) got things wrong, Annie remained calm, professional, enthusiastic and encouraging." Catriona, Antigua Regatta March 2015

"I cannot fault Sophie or Emily. Sophie has a wonderfully calm and controlled manner, yet is obviously very competent and passionate about sailing. Emily was a bundle of fun yet clearly very able in her first role as first mate and spinnaker operator - I'm sure she'll do very well with GFS."  Eliana, Warsash Spring Series April 2015

"I absolutely loved it! I was a little nervous given the conditions but gained so much confidence through Lyssandra's amazing teaching and calm approach!" Nina, Manouevring Masterclass April 2015

But together with the other three experienced women who were on the Day Skipper course, we very quickly made for a fun and supportive team of each other. The week has given me an entry back into what it feels to be living again." Wendelien, RYA Oct 2014

I saw her manage personalities and work psychology like a professional coach. Not to mention her maintenance are repair skill. She seems to enjoy every aspect of her job from greasing a winch to the clients/friendships to excellent sailing and teaching. As for Sarah - super 1st mate! Her and nikki are an awesome team. Sarah too displays a great character and an aptitude for mechanical and just getting the job done. And then there is that big smile! I had so much fun! I have already encouraged a friend to sign up to GFS event! I hope to see you girls again!!!" Monique Feb Caribbean 2014

"Just a quick line to say Girls for Sail rocks!!! I had a fantastic time last week, Rooby was amazing as our skipper, her calm and clear instruction taught me more in 5 days than I'd learnt in 12 months cruising in the West Indies. We all made good friends on board - the only downer was when we had to get off and say goodbye! Thanks so much." Alison, RYA June 2011

"Really excellent; friendly; professional; great atmosphere among the women; 50% were purely individual travellers, and the others were a group of 3 and a group of 2 - but there was no 'clique-iness' between those who knew girlsforsail and those for whom it was the first time.  Really impressed with Annie, her ethos, her teaching ability (especially day 3 after the race when we had more time); loved the way she would let people try things for themselves; loved her philosophy of looking out for each other / no such thing as a silly question / and have fun - no small feat when the gusts were 37knts at one point!" Suzy, Round the Island 2011

"Excellent tuition in a fun and relaxed atmosphere." Ellen, RYA Day Skipper June 2011
