About the course

This is a great chance to get out there and become the skipper!

This course also gives you a chance to meet other like minded ladies who want to get out there just as much as you do - don't worry if you are coming on your own, by the end of the week you will feel like you've known your fellow crew members forever!

You'll spend 5 days sailing the Caribbean sea and exploring the ports, including Rodney Bay, Marigot Bay and the Pitons. Not only do you spend the days sailing you get the chance to do a night sail, what better way to really appreciate sailing but in the peace and quiet with clear skies...

The course includes everything you could possibly need to understand about how to be in charge of a boat. Take advantage of your RYA qualified instructor who loves being able to teach: She is there to help you as much as possible and loves watching everyone progress and ensure that you are confident with every aspect of your course.

She will teach you the basic practical skippering skills to enable you to be a confident and happy being at the helm on short passages by day. During the week each person has the chance to act as skipper. This will include planning where to go, when to get there and obstacles that may be in the way. You will practice mooring in many different ways and go through things in as many difficult ways in case you ever feel you may be caught out. Your instructor will always advise you on the safest way to do things, in a way that makes sense to you and to remind you, you aren't in any rush..

By the end of this course you should be a confident sailor with sound knowledge in all activities relating to sailing your own boat!

Sample Itinerary in St. Lucia

Day 1

You'll be given a very warm welcome at around 10am by your Girls for Sail skipper on arrival at your lovely yacht in Rodney Bay Marina, on the North West side of St Lucia. After your bags have been stowed below deck, sit back and relax with a welcome drink whilst your skipper takes you through the boat. A lot of information this morning, but don't worry, it will all sink in. After the safety brief, we will learn how to hoist the sails, and head out of Rodney Bay to start learning about how the sails work. For the 'Want to be Skippers' amongst us, cementing the procedures involved, ready to take command throughout the week. We will end the day back at Marigot Bay, it is a sheltered, mangrove-lined bay. From inside, it affords a perfect backdrop for that sunset photo and rum punch, as you look across the beach spit with all of its palms.

Day 2

After digesting a lot of information yesterday, today will put it into practice, repeating the lessons of the day before and incorporating more tacking and gybing. We will practice anchoring today and brushing up and learning our knots! From Marigot bay we will find a great spot to anchor up and have a dip, before heading off to the Pitons! These primeval twin peaks, topping 2,000 feet, are St. Lucia's most famous landmark.

Day 3

Today we will venture around towards the southern point of St Lucia - out of the shelter of the island you will experience a different kind of sailing, and on route you will be meeting our very careless mate Bob. That's right, a bit of man overboard recovery!

Day 4

You thought sailing was just from A-B? Well today you'll learn why sailing in a triangle helps you to understand the physics behind sailing! The potential skippers amongst you will be knee deep in charts planning our route for tomorrow!

Last Day

Don't be Sad!  But it's your last day on the water practicing the skills you've learnt over this week, before returning to Rodney Bay Marina where you can enjoy a well deserved cocktail before swaping contact details, saying your goodbyes and departing the yacht at 4pm, At least you'll have spent this week, making excellent friends and experiencing something totally unique!

*All itineraries are subject to change due to weather and skipper's discretion
