Finishes:  Friday 4:00pm @Shepards Wharf Marina

About The Event

A 5 day event consists of a four day sailing trip during which the crew can decide where we go, and take us there!!......followed by a navigaton/theory lesson!

If you are looking to complete an RYA course or sailing with your partner and want some top tips then get on board! This would be the perfect trip for you! We can choose where we go having first looked at the weather and tides and your skipper will help you pull together a passage plan to get us there!  Or you can just come along for the ride and get some miles under your belt.  Either way it'll be lots of miles to add to your log book and a lovely holiday while you're at it!

We meet Monday morning and after a check of the weather and tides, following a full safety brief we'll head out on our four day adventure!

We take our boat leisurely to wherever we are going - well, it might be might not! We could go straight there or we may end up stopping somewhere on's all up to you and what the weather and tides are doing.

Your skipper is RYA qualified and you can take advantage of her knowledge, either learning the basics of sailing, wind awareness, parts of the boat and of course how to sail it or concentrating on particular areas you wish to practice. You can be as involved as you wish, whether taking the helm, changing a sail, pulling on a few sheets or simply sitting back and enjoying the atmosphere! Whatever we do we ensure you'll be safe and have fun.

Outline Itinerary UK - 4 day week sailing and 1 day theory)

Day 1-4 - Meet on the boat at 10am at Shepherds Wharf Marina, Cowes. Your skipper will be onboard with the kettle on! Decide what to for your week and take it from there. Its going to be a great week, weather and crew dependant. To start you will cover a crew safety briefing and get to know your crew mates!

Day 5 - spend the day in the classroom polishing up on anything you found difficult theoretically. Most people need extra lessons on taking fixes, understanding passage plannin but we can cover the things you found difficult during the week

Additional Information

Other Activities

During the week you get the chance to spend nights at anchor and in marinas really experiencing life on board. We try and make allowances for some nights  to one of the local pubs for a meal with all of your crew mates to relax and reflect on the previous days work.

What's included

  • Exclusive use of yacht
  • Professional RYA qualified Skipper
  • Breakfast and lunches
  • FUN! FUN! FUN!

About the boat

We mostly coach on yachts of between 37 and 41ft. Our yachts have been specifically chosen as they are easy to handle, great for learning! There is no denying us girls sometimes don't have the physical strength of the boys but with our technical ability and a well-chosen yacht we can do just as well. You will usually find yourself aboard an Élan 37, Jeanneau 37 or a Beneteau 40.7. All of your time will be spent living as crew-mates on your yacht.  Most of the yachts have 9/10 berths with 3 cabins and a saloon so the boats will normally have 2 persons in each cabin i.e. 6 - this is always the case for an RYA course, MAX 6 persons on-board. On some events e.g. races we use the saloon which can sleep an additional 2-4 person.

About Cowes

Cowes is widely credited as being the birthplace of UK yachting, seeing hundreds of 'yachties' descend every year on the seaside town and swelling it's resident population multifold.

With a wealth of activities on and off the water and a year-round mild, sunny climate the island attracts loyal visitors and second home owners alike all year round but especially during the spring and summer months when the world class sailing conditions attract professional sailors from around the world to take part in famous regattas and races - as well as thousands of spectators who gather shoreside to watch the dramas unfold.

Easily reached by high speed passenger ferry, car ferry or even hovercraft (the island has the last remaining hovercraft service in the world) from Lymington, Southampton or Portsmouth on the mainland, the island is the perfect destination for young and old alike with plenty to see, eat and do.

We're based at Shepards Wharf, a marina just down the road from our office. It's a friendly marina which hosts a lot of different boats from just about everywhere!

What experience do I need?

None! This course is the perfect intro to sailing and is aimed at complete beginners! You can come on your own or with a friend - most ladies come by themselves and we take very good care of you so you won't feel alone!

Why choose Girls for Sail?

  • First of all we want to give you some freedom, we want you to feel absolutely able to do anything onboard, so we will greet you, make you feel welcome, confident and safe, and of course you won't have anyone rushing you! You can learn at your own pace with our skippers and feel the benefit of this in your handling of our yacht!
  • We pride ourselves on our levels of tuition.  There's no such thing as a 'silly' question!  There's no shouting onboard and as it's also your holiday, we want you to have fun and go home relaxed and satisfied with your time here! Not to mention you get to meet new lifelong friends!

Our values are simple: Encourage, Support, Challenge and Respect!
