About The Event

Nothing gets us more excited than the opportunity to race!

The Garmin Hamble Winter Series  Begins their exciting racing on Sundays from early October until the beginning of December in our backgarden, the Solent!

This year we'll be doing a campaign deal for 6 weekends of training and racing, for this we've got our fantastic RYA Skippers to lend a hand in training you up for the Winter Event of the Season!

Our Campaign is designed to take all varieties of skill set sailors with us! Don't worry if you've never raced before! Once you train with us,
you'll be first up prepping the boat, just itching to get to the start line (And hopefully first to the finish line too!)

You'll have the chance to learn all your racing skills, such as Spinnaker hoisting, (don't worry if this sounds daunting, our skippers are there to help you through each step of using one!)
How to make best use of the sails and the wind, and also maybe a few handy tricks to keep up your sleeve! -but we'll keep those a secret till you get onboard, can't have the competition getting ahead can we?!!?!

Remember with this campaign you'll get the experience of a lifetime being able to race against some amazing teams, and of course you'll get to leave with the incredible stories you can make all your friends jealous with!

Racing is always on the Sunday for this series, so we've designed the training days to be over four of the Saturdays, and these will provide you with all the top level tuition you'll need for covering racing manouvers!

Fancy more than just 1 weekend, why not just book for either the half campaign or the whole series & save on the price too

****  Time and dates still being finalised! ****

If you love the sound of this and want to see what else we have on, take a look at :

CAREER BREAK - take a break from work and go on an adventure!

ATLANTIC CROSSING - Fancy embarking on a fantastic adventure?

The boat

We mostly coach on yachts of between 37 and 41ft. Our yachts have been specifically chosen as they are easy to handle, great for learning! There is no denying us girls sometimes don't have the physical strength of the boys but with our technical ability and a well-chosen yacht we can do just as well. You will usually find yourself aboard an Élan 37, Jeanneau 37 or a Beneteau 40.7. All of your time will be spent living as crew-mates on your yacht.  Most of the yachts have 9/10 berths with 3 cabins and a saloon so the boats will normally have 2 persons in each cabin i.e. 6 - this is always the case for an RYA course, MAX 6 persons on-board. On some events e.g. races we use the saloon which can sleep an additional 2-4 person.

About Cowes

Cowes is widely credited as being the birthplace of UK yachting, seeing hundreds of 'yachties' descend every year on the seaside town and swelling its resident population multifold!

With a wealth of activities on and off the water and a year-round mild, sunny climate the island attracts loyal visitors and second home owners alike all year round but especially during the spring and summer months when the world class sailing conditions attract professional sailors from around the world to take part in famous regattas and races - as well as thousands of spectators who gather shoreside to watch the dramas unfold.

Easily reached by high speed passenger ferry, car ferry or even hovercraft (the island has the last remaining hovercraft service in the world) from Lymington, Southampton or Portsmouth on the mainland, the island is the perfect destination for young and old alike with plenty to see, eat and do.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival

We will meet at the GFS Office in Cowes on Friday night at 19:30. You'll get to know your crew and all head out for meal together in a local pub. Unwind after a potentially stressful week, let your hair down with some live music or simply chill with some drinks in a bar. It's your party, as they say.

 Day 2 -

Up and at 'em! It's training day on the solent. After breakfast on board you'll be storming around the solent, learning race specific skills and drills. Together you'll get to know the boat, the sails and the tactics involved in a successful race.

Saturday evening you'll go for another crew dinner, perhaps in a restaurant and relax in time for the race tomorrow!

 Day 3

It's an early start today! We'll cruise over towards Warsash for the start line, and see all the other competitors joslting for position. One or two races later (depending on the weekend) we'll head back to Cowes in time for the 1615 Red Jet!

Please allow for a later Red Jet, in light airs races take much longer- and we'd hate to have to retire!

Experience required

Competent crew level of experience. No previous racing experience is required, our skippers are more than qualified to get you up to scratch! Come and learn something new!
