Girls For Sail Verdict

Enjoy telling your friends that you spent a week on your own luxury yacht in the South of France, taking part in what can only be described as the ‘Chanel’ of regattas.  It’s even better than it sounds!! A jaw dropping spectacle - this is sophisticated sailing at its best.

Starts: 12 noon, Saturday 25th September, Les Marines de Cogolin, Saint Tropez

Finishes: 12 noon, Sunday 2nd October

About The Event

The regatta is set in the stunning, exclusive resort of St Tropez, adored by the rich and famous for decades.

Like the town itself, everything about Les Voiles de Saint Tropez says glamour and style.  A unique mixture of beautiful traditional yachts race alongside sleek modern yachts like the Wally Yachts (they have colour coordinated RIBs!) making the St Tropez Regatta the envy of the whole world.  A host of racers and sailing enthusiasts come from all the corners of the globe to do battle in the bay of Saint Tropez.

We are likely to be berthing in the marina of "Les Marines de Cogolin" - a mere 10 minute sail away!

About Saint Tropez

The harbour has to be one of the most beautiful in the world - historic beauty with a modern twist. This is where having a coffee and watching the world go was invented. If you dont have a pouch in a bag daaarling then you will probably be a sailor!

The French are passionate about sailing and this town is the most elegant of them all. Beautiful cobbled streets with impeccably dressed ladies and gentleman relaxing and watching the classic multi million pound yachts go by. Throw in the odd irish bar for the real yachtties visiting town and you get fun with aches of style!

This fantastic week is where the richest people who adore yachts congregate. We challenge anyone to provide the worlds most beautiful yachts in one place for all to see - this is IT! J class yachts with classics galore thrown in with the sleekest Wally yachts makes it a week off eye popping. If you don't get caught gawping this week we will be most supposed and who wouldnt ladies!!! Its nothing to be embarrased about.....this is a jaw dropping spectacle

The boat

We mostly coach on yachts of between 37 and 41ft. Our yachts have been specifically chosen as they are easy to handle, great for learning! There is no denying us girls sometimes don't have the physical strength of the boys but with our technical ability and a well-chosen yacht we can do just as well. You will usually find yourself aboard an Élan 37, Jeanneau 37 or a Beneteau 40.7. All of your time will be spent living as crew-mates on your yacht.  Most of the yachts have 9/10 berths with 3 cabins and a saloon so the boats will normally have 2 persons in each cabin i.e. 6 - and on some events e.g. races we use the saloon which can sleep an additional 2-4 person.

Other activities

Aperitifs welcome us as we check in for the welcome party. The excitement increases as we meet our fellow racers - we are a rare and very popular feature as one year we were the first and only all female entry.  Eat your hearts out boys...you can only have one of our crew shirts if you are a girl!

Overall, Les Voiles de Saint Tropez is a thrilling mixture of sport, beauty, adventure and maritime history.
